A new leisure centre for Larkhall has taken another crucial step forward.

A Full Business Case has been submitted to the Glasgow City Region City Deal for approval.

The new leisure centre will feature a 25-metre, six-lane swimming pool, with an adjustable-depth moving floor to accommodate users of all ages and abilities and complemented by tiered spectator seating for local aquatic events.

There will also be a wellness suite with sauna and steam rooms, and a state-of-the art gym equipped with cardiovascular and resistance training technology.

A multi-functional fitness and dance studio adaptable for yoga, Pilates and community events with a dedicated tea-preparation facility will be provided, along with a three-court games hall that will support a range of facilities including badminton, pickleball and five-a-side football.

Council Leader Maureen Devlin said: “This is the next important step in delivering a brand-new, state-of the-art leisure centre that the community can be proud of, and which is fit for generations to come.

“It is part of the overall Larkhall Community Growth Area project, which will also deliver around 1700 new homes in the area.

“The provision of an accessible and modern leisure centre is an essential element of the community infrastructure.

“With a now revised budget of £27.8 million, the new Larkhall Leisure Centre will be the most expensive facility, outwith the secondary schools’ programme, that the council has built.”

The project is being delivered via Hub South West Scotland, with BAM Construction appointed to carry out the works.

The construction phase is expected to begin next month, with completion scheduled for 2028.
